Team GTC is made up of long time friends turned colleagues at AGEX, Wendel Thuss and Matt Whitt. Wendel and Matt first completed the Safari in 2012 in Novice Class with a time of just over 72 hours. They then followed up with another 72-hour finish in 2013 in USCA C-2 Class. When Wendel took a year off to welcome his triplet sons with his wife Natalie, Matt carried the GTC team on by finishing the 2014 Safari in the Solo Unlimited Class in just over 77 hours. This year, Wendel and Matt are going back to their roots and attempting the Safari in the very same old classic Alumacraft Voyager canoe they used in their first Safari.
Joining Wendel and Matt this year as Team Captains (the most crucial element of any Safari team) are two more AGEX colleagues - Matt Altemeier and Robb Van Eman. As Team Captains, Matt and Robb will be waiting at each checkpoint to deliver water, food and ice to the boat and they’ll track and monitor our progress and condition every step of the way.
